Having so
much work to do in a short time can be very stressful, especially if they all
need to be done within a short while.
If you are
not careful, or if you are impatient, you might loose your cool, and end up not
completing any task, and trust me procrastination would only pile up your to do
list, so it’s better to face them head on.
If you are
facing this kind of situation, trust me its normal, I even get stuck in such
situation every now and then, but some people are constantly facing this every
day.
Be you a
student, a parent, a business person, or even an office worker you must have
been faced with the challenge of multi-duty,
I know there are lots of multitasking tips all
over the internet, but I have compiled a list of practical tips that would help
you smash that long list of things to be done, so next time you’ll know how to
get off that sticky situation
1. To do list technique
Writing a to
do list, brings the list of duties to paper, in order to utilize this
technique, there are two ways you should write your to do list
*Highest to
least to do list format
In this kind
of list, all duties are written in the highest to least format
I.e. most
necessary to least necessary
Most
difficult to least difficult
Most time
consuming to least time consuming
This method
makes it easier to smash the list, by starting with most difficult things, you won’t
find it stressful doing the less difficult ones later, considering the fact
that they won’t take your time and energy unlike the hardest tasks.
*Least to
Highest to do list format
This format
is the direct opposite of the highest to least format
This
technique gives you a least approach to your duty, you start with the least
time consuming or the least difficult to the most.
This method
lets you warm up before the most duties, I also call this a lazy approach, and
you are most likely to get tired before finishing your duties, but you can
smash all duties, if you are determined to, and what excellent work doesn’t
require determination?
2. One place at a time
approach
This usually
works for me, and trust me it can work for you too.
Imagine you
living in a 3 bedroom flat apartment, and you just organized a party, leaving
the whole apartment scattered,
and you need to tidy the whole place, using this
technique means you would clear the apartment one room after the other.
Using the
most to least technique, you would do handle all room but no room at a time.
The one place at a time approach doesn’t allow
you to leave the room until you are done cleaning the room.
You can probably
start with mopping the floor then you tidy the bed, or vice-versa, whichever
one you choose, using this technique you are not allowed to leave the room until
you are done,
and then you move to the next room and do the same.
3.
Combination technique
This
technique allows you combine two tasks together, and doing them together,
For example
you might be scrubbing the floor while you are listening to a podcast, or
preparing a meal that takes time to steam.
While using
this technique, it’s advisable to combine `two things that are not related,
like scrubbing the floor and listening to a podcast, not scrubbing the floor
and clearing the bed.
Using this
technique you might also create a to do list, listing all the tasks you need to
do, then in a tabular form, separate the tasks, so as to know which tasks that
can be combined
4. Timing technique
This
technique allows you to assign each task to a different time, it’s more or less
like having a time table, you can give yourself 30 to each task, and that means
within 2 hours, 4 tasks would be completed.
This
technique is more or less like one place at a time approach, just that you are
working under time constraints, and it doesn’t allow you to move to the next
task without completing one.
With this
technique you can determine how many tasks you are likely to complete within a
stipulated time.
5. Ask for help
There is no
crime asking for help every once in a while.
After your
house party, you can call one of your friend and ask for their help, to tidy
the apartment, that way the job is done faster, and can even be done in a fun
way.
Though I used
a home settings for this multitasking techniques, you can use them in office, schools,
and any other place you need multitasking help.
